―我らが大祭司　イエス・キリスト―

旧約聖書における祭司たちの役割を理解することは、あがないにおけるキリストの役割を理解することを可能にするので、とても大切です。祭司は、聖さにおける神と、汚れにおける人間との間の仲保者でした。現代において（訳者補訳）、神の聖さは変わったでしょうか？　人間の罪深さは減少したでしょうか？　そんなことはありません！　だから（訳者補訳）“仲立ち”の必要性は、今日も同じように存在しますが、その方法は違います。それは、もはや地上の祭司の務めによってなされることはありません。私たちには、イスラエルの祭司がそうしたように、自分自身のためにあがないをする必要のない偉大な大祭司がおられます。私たちの大祭司は、罪なきイエス・キリストです。

祭司の役割について学ぶべき2つ目のことは、神に軽々しく近づいてはならないということです。旧約聖書の時代には、神は人々を守るために、民とご自身の間に“隔て”を設けられました。ある特別の部族のメンバーだけが、礼拝の家で仕えることができ、その部族の中の一つの家族だけが、いけにえをささげることができました。そのうえ、その家族の中のただ一人だけが、至聖所の隔ての幕の奥にある神の臨在の中に、それも年に一度だけ、入ることができたのです。その祭司は、人々のあがないをする前に、彼自身の罪のためにあがないをしなければなりませんでした。それをしなければ、彼は死の罰を受けました。

It is essential for us to understand the role of the priests in the Old Testament because it will enable us to understand Christ's role in our redemption. The priests were the mediators between God in his holiness and human beings in their unholiness. Has God's holiness changed? Has the sinfulness of people decreased? Hardly! The same need for mediation exists today, but it is met in a different way. It is no longer met through the ministry of earthly priests. We have a great High Priest who does not need to make atonement for himself as the priests of Israel did. Our High Priest is the sinless Christ Jesus.

A second thing to be learned about the priestly role is that God is not to be approached lightly. In Old Testament times God placed barriers between the people and himself in order to protect the people. Only members of a special tribe could minister in the house of worship, and only members of one family from that tribe could offer sacrifices. Further, only a single member of that family could come into the presence of God behind the veil in the Holy of Holies, and he could go there only once a year. The priest had to make atonement for his own sins before he made atonement for the people. If he did not, the penalty was death.

The holiness of our God remains pure and powerful, but we no longer approach him through an earthly and sinful priest. We have access to the Father through Jesus, who in his death rent the veil of the temple and made access for all persons to come boldly to God. But we do not come alone. We come through Jesus, so our boldness is not presumption. It is based on the atoning work of Christ. In the institution of the priesthood we see a picture of what Christ came to do. He did away with the Old Testament priesthood, but the ministry and reality of that priesthood he took upon himself and performs for us even today.

So "approach the throne of grace with confidence" through Christ (Hebrews 4:16).

【解説】　多くの人は、自分の存在に自信が持てなくて、苦しんでいます。セルフイメージが、驚くほど低いのです。それに比例して、周りの人の自分を見る目が気になります。セルフイメージが低ければ低いほど、周りが気になり、悩むのです。その対極にあるのが、やみくもに自分を頼り、究極的には自分を神格化して、他者を不幸に陥れるエゴイズムです。家庭内の悲惨なDVから、日本ではオウム真理教の教祖、はたまた世界征服の妄想に走ったヒトラーに至るまで、その根は同じです。いずれの場合も、その本当の理由は、”自分”という存在をこの世に生み出したお方を知らず、そのお方に信頼し、自己存在の絶対的な根拠として、そのお方の愛の内にとどまるすべを持っていないからです。

　他者と比較することなく、自由に、安らかに、“自分自身”でいられること。そこに、人間本来の、本当の生き方があります。そのためには、どんな場合も、迷わず、ぶれず、「キリストにとどまる」。ここにあなたの“揺るぎない存在”の根拠があるのです。

（訳者の舞台裏、ひと言：　原文の"God-confidence" "Christ-esteem"はいわゆる”造語”です。そうなると、翻訳者も、日本語で造語せざるを得ません。“神信頼”はいいとして、“キリスト尊心”！　いかがでしょうか？）

Only by abiding in Christ will we gain confidence in who we are, what we say and what we do. This is not "self-confidence" or "self-esteem" (as the world calls it), but rather "God-confidence" and "Christ-esteem".

あなたの祝福は、あなたの問題を上回ります。幸せは、あなたが欲しいものを手に入れたら訪れるものではありません。幸せは、あなたが神が置かれた場所におり、神がお与えくださった全てのものを感謝するときに訪れます。困難なとき、あなたは、“物”よりも、“人”と、その人との“つながり”が大切であることを学びます。“日々、感謝する”―それは、不平不満よりも、恵みを数える良き時なのです。

Thanksgiving.

God’s blessings abound in the center of God’s will.

My thoughts and comments today are about “giving thanks.”

In A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens’ novel about the French Revolution explains, “It was the best of times; it was the worst of times . . It was the spring of hope; it was the winter of despair.” Life presents adversity as well as prosperity. While a young teen I remember my Father advising, “More people can stand adversity than can handle prosperity.” You can grow in either, if you keep a Godly perspective with a conviction about God’s faithfulness. In tough times, look for the lesson not the exit.

In the genealogy of our Savior, you will find a story of God’s provision and providence amid difficulty, even tragedy. Read the book of Ruth, four brief chapters but the most amazing story of God’s providence and blessing in the midst of adversity. Elimelech and Naomi experienced a famine in Bethlehem. Along with their two sons, they left Bethlehem to find a better life in Moab. Wrongly, they assumed things would be better elsewhere. Their adversity only worsened. In Moab, Elimelech died. Naomi’s sons married, but through tragic circumstances they later died also.

Naomi was alone in a foreign land with only her two Moabite daughters-in-law. That’s when she determined to return home to Bethlehem, ‘the House of bread.” I love what prompted her desire to return to Bethlehem. “In Moab she heard that the Lord had visited His people in giving them bread . . now [Naomi and Ruth] came to Bethlehem at the beginning of harvest.”Ruth 1:6/22. Home is a good place to come and harvest is always a good time to return to “the House of bread.”Whatever circumstances lured you elsewhere, being where God provides for you is paramount.God’s blessings are found and abound in the center of God’s will.

Naomi left home in a famine, but with all of her family. She returns at harvest, but with far less than when she left. When you lose those you love most, even a famine seems a small thing to endure. Her feelings were real; her assumptions were inaccurate. “I went away full . . I came back empty,” was her sad appraisal. Read Ruth 1:20-22 NKJV. Of course, she didn’t yet know what providentially awaited her return.Read Ruth 4:14-17 NKJV. However disheartening your present experience, God has so much good still awaiting you. See 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 NLT.

“Rejoice always. In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians5:16/18 NKJV. Your blessings outnumber your troubles.Happiness doesn’t come from getting what you want; happiness is being where God wants you to be and appreciating all God has given. In tough times you learn that people and relationships matter more than things. Thanksgiving – every day- is a good time to count your blessings rather than complain.

On Thanksgiving, I pray for you to find God’s sufficiency, grateful for His grace.

There’s an old song with the refrain “Just keep on praying ‘til light breaks through.” When you don’t feel like praying, that’s when you need to. You need to pray until you do feel like praying. You see, you’re not praying by yourself. The Spirit is praying through you and for you, helping to present your petitions to the Father — petitions that perhaps you yourself are not even capable of expressing. Do not approach God with your hands full of the brass of your emotions. Rather, approach Him with hands and heart full of the sweet incense of His worth. Just keep praying.

ACTION POINT:

How’s your prayer life? Do you say grace before meals and squeeze in a quick prayer before you drop off to sleep each night? Take some time today to talk to the Lord.

What You Think about God

One evening I asked a group of Pioneer Girls what was the first thing that came to their mind when they thought about God. One girl answered, “An old man with a long beard, sitting on a cloud.” That was how she perceived God.

I often wonder what older adults think about God. A.W. Tozer wrote, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” It is so important that we have the Biblical image of God and not someone else’s.

Dr. William R. Bright wrote the following about God.

1. Because God is spirit, I will seek intimate fellowship with Him.

2. Because God is all-powerful, He can help me with anything.

3. Because God is ever-present, He is always with me.

4. Because God knows everything, I will go to Him with all my questions and concerns.

5. Because God is sovereign, I will joyfully submit to His will.

6. Because God is holy, I will devote myself to Him in purity, worship and service.

7. Because God is absolute truth, I will believe what He says and live accordingly.

8. Because God is righteous, I will live by His standards.

9. Because God is just, He will treat me fairly.

10. Because God is love, He is unconditionally committed to my well-being.

11. Because God is merciful, He forgives me of my sins when I sincerely confess them.

12. Because God is faithful, I will trust Him to always keep His promises.

13. Because God never changes, my future is secure and eternal.

What comes to your mind when you think about God? Write it down. Is it Biblical? Do you need to rethink your view of God?

Thought

When we are exhausted, depleted, and on the edge of burn out, we need to have our souls restored! But who can restore our souls? Only the One who will lead us beside still waters! The Lord is our Shepherd. He alone can fully bring the nourishment and replenishment that we need. Yet why do we sometimes find it so hard to set aside time to be with him? Could it be that we keep our lives so busy that we miss out on the one thing that matters most?

Prayer

As you have shown me time and time again, dear Father, I know that being with you restores me in a place within my heart that no one else can reach. Forgive me for seeking nourishment and refreshment from places that are unholy and unhelpful. Reinvigorate me with your presence and power so that I can serve you more victoriously. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

A negative thought first crossing our mind is not sin. But if we choose to bury that thought in our hearts or turn it into a negative action, sin is the result. We need to take that thought captive and immediately relinquish it to God.

We know God to be faithful, and we need to be faithful to Him as well. If we promise God something in our prayer closet, we need to make sure our actions line up with that promise.

The great promise to those who seek the Lord is that he will be found. “If you seek him, he will be found by you” (1 Chronicles 28:9). And when he is found, there is great reward. “Whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him” (Hebrews 11:6). God himself is our greatest reward. And when we have him, we have everything.

《礼拝するということ》

”礼拝”とは、日曜礼拝の20分間を言うのではなく、“ライフスタイル（生活様式）“のことです。

ひと言で言えば、私たちの神礼拝は、私たちが毎日の生活をどのように生きているか（ライフスタイル）ということの中に示されます。神様は私たちに、回心し、全く変えられた心で、ご自身を霊とまことをもって礼拝することを求めておられます。私たちはそれを、神をあがめ、仕え、その戒めを心に留めることによって行うのです。

Worship is not a twenty minute period during a church service; It’s a lifestyle.

In the nutshell, our worship of God is shown in how we lives our daily lives (a lifestyle). God wants us to worship Him in spirit and truth from a converted and transformed heart. We do this by honoring Him, serving Him and giving heed to His instructions.

Sometimes, our prayer is so hurried that we say amen even before God opens the door, and our obedience is so incomplete that we rn away even before God commands.
