神よ、こんなリーダーを！

何が私たちをクリスチャン・リーダーにするのでしょうか？　クリスチャン・リーダーシップは、単に神を愛している、イエス・キリストを愛しているというだけでは言い表せません。クリスチャン・リーダーシップの“核”を成すものは、人々を愛し、人々に仕えるということです。キリスト・イエスがご自身の命をお与えになった、その人々をです！　私たちの人生の中に“配置”された一人一人をです！　
私は、自分のリーダーシップ訓練校の生徒たちによくこう言います。「もし君たちが、心底から人々を愛し、世話をすることができないなら、リーダーになろうなどとは頭から考えないことだ」と。
クリスチャン・リーダーとは、傷つけられ、誤解される備えのできたリーダーのことです。善きことをしながら、それに対し評価どころか感謝もされないことへの心構えができているリーダーのことです。これが、“本物の”クリスチャン・リーダーであることの現実の姿なのです。仕えはするが、仕えられることはありません！　愛しはするが、時にはとても孤独で、愛も感謝も受けることはないのです！　それでもなお、人々を、愛と赦しで包み込む大きな心を持っていることです。

What makes us Christian leaders? Christian leadership is not only defined by loving God, or loving Jesus Christ: the essence of Christian leadership is to love and serve people, for whom Christ Jesus gave His life! Individuals that have been placed in our lives! I use to say to my leadership students: if you don't love people and care for them genuinely, do not even think of becoming a leader.
 A Christian leader means a leader who is ready to be hurt, misunderstood, who is ready to do good and yet not be appreciated or even thanked. These are the realities of being a genuine Christian leader. To serve but not to be served! To love, but at times be very lonely, without love or appreciation! And yet still having a big heart containing others in love and forgiveness.

【解説】　リーダーシップにもいろいろな定義がありますが、これはちょっと変わっていますね。”心を”でなく”心で”満たされたとなれば、その”心”の中身が分からなければ、イマイチ意味を成しません。そこで英和辞書でheart「心」を引くと、文字どおりの「心、心情、気持ち」の意味の他に、こんな訳ができてきます。「勇気、気力、熱意、（他者への）関心、決意」。上記の訳に、これらの一つ一つを当てはめれば、神様の求められるリーダー像が浮かび上がってきますね。私はそれに、最も大切なものとして、躊躇なくfaith「信仰“心”」を加えます。
