もし神が「私はあなたを赦す」と言われたら、それで十分なのだ。神ご自身が満足なさるほど十分にお赦しになれるのは、神だけなのである。なぜなら、人間のいかなる赦しも、苦悩する良心の痛みを和らげることはできないからだ。

If God says, I forgive thee, that is enough. It is only God that can forgive satisfactorily; because no human pardon can ease the troubled conscience.
