人間の業によって救われる！　それはあり得ない！　ああ、不可である。あわれな教条主義者は、あたかも粉ひき場をグルグル回る盲（めし）いた馬のごときである。はたまた懲罰用の踏み板を登る囚人のごときで、どうあがいても上には登れないことを悟るのである。（訳注:　ハツカネズミの回転踏み板のようなもの。）彼には信頼に足る確信もなければ、そこに安んじることのできる堅固な地盤もない。業には十分になし得たということがない。“永遠に不十分”なのだ。良心は絶えずこう言おう、「これは完全ではない。もっとよくなっているはずだ」と。神の敵対者の救いは、一人の“大使”によらねば､一つの”贖い”、しかり、キリストによらねばならぬのだ。
