それでは、この世が武器を取り、あなたに向かってきたなら、はたまたこの世が束になって、まるで“軍隊”のように、あなたを全く滅ぼさんと追いかけてきたなら、主の戦士であるあなたの取るべき態度はどのようであろうか？　屈服するや？　あなたは屈服なさるのか？　膝をかがめるか？　卑しくへつらうおつもりか？　いや、断じて！　ルターがその旗に書いたように、「私はなんぴとにも降伏しない」。そして世があなたに向かって戦いに赴くなら、あなたもまたこの世に向かって、戦いにいでゆくのだ。

What is then the behaviour of the Lords warrior when he sees the world take up arms against him, and when he sees all earth, like an army, coming to chase him, and utterly destroy him? Does he yield? Does he yield? Does he bend? Does he cringe? Oh, no! Like Luther, he writes “Cedo nulli” on his banner “I yield to none;” and he goes to war against the world, if the world goes to war against him.
