あなた方のうちのある人は、死ぬのを恐れておられ、それにはもっともな理由がある。と言うのも、あなたにとって死は悲しみの始まりであるからだ。そして、それが近づくにつれて、あなたは「ヨハネの黙示録」の天使の声を聞くかもしれない。「1つの災いは過ぎ去った。しかし見よ、更に2つの災いが来ようとしている。」　もしあなたが備えなしに、そして回心せぬまま、そして救われることなく死ぬとしたら、「そこには、もはや、裁きと火のような憤激を恐れおののきつつ待ち受けるよりほかに、何一つ残ってはいないのだ。」

Some of you fear to die, and have good reason to do so, for death for you would be the beginning of sorrows; and on its approach ye might hear the voice of the angel of the Apocalypse: “One woe is past, but behold two woes more are to come.” If, sirs, ye were to die unprepared, and unconverted, and unsaved, “There remaineth nothing but a fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation.”
