―そは福音か、はたまた霞（かすみ）か？―

我が友よ、私は、日曜の朝と夕ごとに”哲学”の一束を人々に与えておいて、この聖なる書の真理をないがしろにすることが、十字架につけられたキリストを宣べ伝えていることだとは信じない。神の言葉の主要なる教義を置き去りにして、そこに何ほどの確かな真理も宿さない、全てこれ靄（もや）か霞のような宗教を語ることが、十字架につけられたキリストを宣べ伝えていることだとは信じない。私は、最後まで一度もキリストの名を口に出さぬまま説教を続けたり、聖霊の働きを脇に追いやり、聖霊について一言たりとも語らざる者は、十字架につけられたキリストを宣べ伝えているのではないと受け取ることにしている。

My friends, I do not believe it is preaching Christ and him crucified, to give our people a batch of philosophy every Sunday morning and evening, and neglect the truth of this Holy Book. I do not believe it is preaching Christ and him crucified, to leave out the main cardinal doctrines of the Word of God, and preach a religion which is all a mist and a haze, without any definite truths whatever. I take it that man does not preach Christ and him crucified, who can get through a sermon without mentioning Christ's name once; nor does that man preach Christ and him crucified who leaves out the Holy Spirits work, who never says a word about the Holy Ghost.
